Tasmania is a popular destination for Aussies looking for a memorable RV trip. But did you know that you can include the entire family when you visit Australia’s island state? That’s right, not only can you bring your RV over on the Spirit of Tasmania, but you can also bring your furry friend. Fortunately, there are lots of dog friendly caravan parks in Tasmania. Let’s take a look at some of them.

LAUNCESTON AND NORTH-EAST TASMANIA

EAST BEACH TOURIST PARK

Set on 22 acres with only foliage-covered dunes separating you from the ocean, this dog friendly caravan park is only 100 kilometres from where the Spirit of Tasmania deposits you in Devonport.

Watch the sun go down over Low Head Lighthouse in the evenings, but not before an afternoon stroll along the shoreline with your furry companion. After that, relax around the campfire with your favourite people and dog.

Powered and unpowered sites are available, as well as ensuite sites and cabins. If you’re 100% self-sufficient, self-contained sites are available at half the rate of unpowered sites.

KOOKABURRA RIDGE

Kookaburra Ridge is a pet friendly HipCamp property set on 50 acres of tranquil countryside in North East Tasmania. Boasting beautiful valley views, there is plenty of space here to sit back, relax and unwind.

See if you can spot the resident platypus in the dam, enjoy the bush walking tracks or simply sit around a campfire. Campers must be 100% self-sufficient with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all of their own waste and rubbish with them on departure.

Other pet friendly caravan parks in North East Tasmania to consider:

• Launceston Holiday Park Legana

• Ross Caravan Park

• Longford Riverside Caravan Park.

THE EAST COAST OF TASMANIA

ST HELENS HOLIDAY PARK

With its location on the doorstep of the breathtaking Bay of Fires, dog friendly St Helens Holiday Park is a winner-winner chicken dinner. The park hugs the waterfront, and the region is fast becoming known for its world-class mountain bike trails.

St Helens Holiday Park is particularly family friendly with a playground, jumping pillow, onsite cafe and a range of accommodation options. Choose from powered sites,  powered ensuite sites or various cabins and bungalows.

WOMBAT VALLEY

Wombat Valley is a secluded HipCamp property near Hobart on the East Coast of Tasmania. The beaches are 10 minutes away, as well as exceptional wineries, fresh oysters and local produce. Camp next to the dam with lots of firewood, and keep your eyes peeled for wombats, wallabies, echidnas, native birds and more.

No facilities are offered here, so all  campers must be 100% completely self-contained. This includes bringing your own toilet.

Other pet friendly caravan parks on the East Coast of Tasmania to consider:

• Swansea Holiday Park

• Big4 St Helens Holiday Park.

SOUTHERN TASMANIA AND HOBART

SEMAPHORE FARM

Semaphore Farm is a 400-acre HipCamp property with convict history, bordering the Port Arthur historic site. Hay and beef are grown here, and it’s also a working forest farm with a private timber reserve.

Campers can enjoy the walking and bike trails through the property, and both a safe swimming beach and the Port Arthur Historic Site are within walking distance.

This campsite offers a toilet and shower, spring water on tap, and a rustic camp kitchen.

HOBART DISCOVERY PARK

Hobart Discovery Park is nestled on the Derwent River, with Mount Wellington as a picturesque backdrop. And as far as cities go, Hobart is one of Australia’s best. Don’t miss the iconic Salamanca Markets on a Saturday!

While you’re not exploring Hobart, families will appreciate the bouncing pillow and playground. Hobart Discovery Park offers powered sites, ensuite sites and a range of cabins. Other pet friendly caravan parks in Hobart and Tasmania’s South to consider:

• Sheepwash Rd Camp

• Big4 Hobart Airport Tourist Park

• Captain Cook Holiday Park, Bruny Island.

THE WEST COAST AND NORTH WEST OF TASMANIA

MERSEY BLUFF CARAVAN PARK

Find Mersey Bluff Caravan Park in Devonport, the township where you will disembark from the Spirit of Tasmania with your caravan. It’s just a few minutes walk from Patrol Beach and there is a range of walking and cycling tracks in the area as well. Families will enjoy the nearby skate park and enjoy the convenience of two restaurants within a stone’s throw of the park.

Mersey Bluff offers both powered sites and cabins.

QUEENSTOWN CABIN AND TOURIST PARK

Queenstown Cabin and Tourist Park is located around 1.5 kilometres from the township of Queenstown. With Mount Owen to the East, the scenery from here is lovely in any season. This region of Tasmania is seriously underrated. Here you can go 4WDing, chase waterfalls, explore the history of Tasmania’s wild west or even raft down the King River.

Queenstown Cabin & Tourist Park offers powered and unpowered sites, as well as cabins.

Other pet friendly caravan parks in Tasmania’s West Coast and North West to consider:

• Devonport Discovery Park

• Marleen Herbs Farm Campsites

• Cradle Mountain Fishery and Camping.
