With the northern touring season well underway, what better time to try out some fun and fruity chilled drinks to refresh yourself at happy hour!
The quantities of ingredients in the following drinks will serve one, so if you are relaxing with your significant other or are having a few friends over for drinks, you will need to do a little multiplication.
These recipes are non-alcoholic, but if you want to spice things up, just add a splash of something appropriate!
Ensure all of the ingredients are nicely chilled for maximum refreshment.
ICED TEA PUNCH
Nothing could be simpler to make than this punch and it is such a thirst-quenching tipple. It’s also great if you have a bit of an upset tummy, as the ginger in the punch is especially kind to your belly. I like to serve this punch as a long drink over plenty of ice.
For a non-caffeinated version, experiment with herbal tea – lemongrass and ginger is particularly nice.
INGREDIENTS
METHOD
In a jug or very large glass, combine the cooled brewed tea and sugar to suit your taste. If you are using grated ginger and mint leaves, add them at this stage. Now add the ginger ale to the tea mixture and stir gently.
Fill a long glass with ice and pour the tea and ginger ale mixture carefully over the ice.
NOT-SO-BLOODY MARY
A tomato juice-based tipple to relax and refresh at the end of the day. Yes, you can add a splash of vodka to this drink, if you so desire.
INGREDIENTS
METHOD
In a jug or large glass, combine the tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce. Stir well to combine.
Serve the Not-So-Bloody Mary with or without ice in a tumbler with a celery stick stirrer.
OJ PUNCH
This is another simple punch recipe using only three ingredients – four if you count ice. This is another drink to be served in a long glass.
You could substitute honey or a teaspoon of brown sugar for the maple syrup. Adjust the amount of syrup to suit your sweet tooth. Try a combo of orange and mango juice as a delicious alternative to straight orange juice.
INGREDIENTS
METHOD
Combine all of the ingredients together in a long glass and enjoy!
